Parks Maintenance Foreman

Job description

The northwest region of Vermont State Parks is seeking a diversely qualified and dynamic person to fill a year-round, fast-paced position leading park facilities maintenance field work, including the direct supervision of three full-time park maintenance technicians.

Maintenance field work includes:
Repair and maintenance of water and wastewater systems

Rough and finished carpentry work

Electrical and solar alterations and repairs

Preparation and painting of interior and exterior surfaces

Servicing of heating and ventilating systems

Use, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles, tractors, lawn care equipment, and chain saws

Work is performed in shop and park field settings both outdoors and inside buildings in some of the most scenic locations of Vermont. Must be flexible, customer-oriented, and adept at working both independently and collaboratively with a team.

Work occurs in all 12 parks within the northwest region, with a primary maintenance shop location in Enosburg and a secondary maintenance shop setting in North Hero.

Environmental Factors
Work is performed in shop and field settings both outdoors and inside buildings. Incumbents must be able to climb ladders, lift heavy weights (up to 50 lbs.), and work in cramped, damp, or poorly ventilated areas. Manual dexterity and strict adherence to safety precautions are needed to operate equipment and use tools. Some evening or overtime work may be necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent, AND three (3) years or more of work experience at or above an apprentice level in building construction, structural maintenance, or automotive, building, or machine repair.

OR

High school diploma or equivalent AND BOTH two (2) years or more of vocational training in building construction, structural maintenance, or automotive, building, or machine repair AND one (1) year or more of work experience at or above an apprentice level in building construction, structural maintenance, or automotive, building, or machine repair.

OR

High school diploma or equivalent AND BOTH two (2) years or more of work experience as a Park Manager AND one (1) year or more of work experience at or above an apprentice level in building construction, structural maintenance, or automotive, building, or machine repair.
